Visio Tape archive's (long term data protection) frequency depends upon the selection of retention range. So you need to set the frequency according to the range of retention. Largest range of retention is from 1 week up to 99 years an the smallest is up to you. For example if you set the range between 1-6 months; you can select backups to occur one a day, weekly or monthly. And soon you can keep the frequency changing as per retention range.
