Hello,

I am having the following problem:

When I tried to go into control panel and selected an icon I find that another program is trying to use the same file. Is it possible to use the same icons for two programs?

Need your help to solve this.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Dillard Cristobal,

Your problem was, when you tried going into the control panel to select an icon, you have found out that another program is using the same icon as with the other one. You have also asked if this is possible. Yes, it is possible, you and the software or programs have the freedom to use whatever icons they have been made to use. Also, you as the user, can easily modify the icons to your desired style and theme.

Always,

Dear Dillard,

Duplicate desktop icons can occur if the common desktop and user desktop are set to the same folder. If that happens and if you try to delete one icon, there are chances that the other icon does not work or show error messages every time you try to open it.

You have to change your registry for this.

Please follow these steps to remove duplicate icons:

1. Click Start,

2. Find “regedit.exe” (See image below), a separate window will open,

3. Then go on Clicking on the drop down menu HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUserShellFolders,

4. Double Click Desktop,

5. Set it to%USERPROFILE%DESKTOP,

6. Again follow this route – HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUserShellFolders,

7. Click on Common Desktop,

8. Set it to %PUBLIC%Desktop.

This shall work for you.
