How to fix word 07 list problem?

I have got a problem which I cannot explain properly. I have been working with word 2007 both on my PC and Laptop. But I get problems when I work on lists.

On the PC, if I create a list, say a) list and type in text, then press Enter then the b) appears as it should. If I do not type text and press enter then the b) disappears and my text returns to normal, which is how this should work. If I press enter again then the cursor moves down to a new line.

On the Laptop If I create the same list a) and type in text, then press Enter then the b) appears as it should. If I do not type text and press enter nothing happens. The cursor stays where it is and doesn't move. If I press enter again still nothing happens. This only seems to be doing this with the lists. The other heading styles are working perfectly.

I have checked the basic settings on both machines and they are set up the same. I also have Word 2003 running on the laptop and the lists are working as they should in that version of Word.

Had anyone ever experienced this? If anybody solved this problem, Please help me.

Thank you all.

Hi Homas,

It sounds like you or someone may have customized the styles on the bullets and numbering format in the Microsoft Word and saved it inadvertently.

The solution is to reset all of those saved settings and getting it back to default.

Windows XP:

1. Click Start>Run
2. Type “regedit” in the box and press Enter

Windows Vista / Windows 7

1. Click Start
2. Type “regedit” in the search box and press Enter
3. Navigate to:
4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Software
    Microsoft
    Office
    12.0
    Word
5. Highlight the “Word” folder and delete it.
6. Confirm the deletion, click “Yes”
7. Exit the Registry Editor and Restart your computer

Alternatively, If you don’t want to delete any folders in the registry,

8. Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Software
    Microsoft
    Office
    12.0
    Word
    Data
9. Rename the normal.dot and Building Blocks. dot keys to something simple like “normal. datum”
10. Exit the registry and Restart your computer

Note: It’s a good practice to make a backup of the registry before making any changes, especially if it’s a major change.

The easiest way to solve this problem is reinstalling the office 2007. You do this by going to start – control panel – programs and features – right click on office 2007 and click on change this is going to start the repair process after it finishes restart the computer for it to take effect. Note before you start the re-installation close all the office applications.
