To enable write protection on your USB under windows operating system, you need to do the following:

First of all, open run by going to start then run and run dialog box appears. Now type regedit and press enter and navigate to the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

>>SYSTEM

>>CurrentControlSet

>>Control

>>StorageDevicePolicies

Now,Select the key and right click onto the right of the window and now you have to create a DWORD  value and now name it as WriteProtect. After doing this you have to double click on the new entry and change value to  from 0. When the value is 1,the write protection is enabled and when it is 0 the write protection is disabled.

Hi there ,

It's so sad that nobody is ready to tell the full details of their problems , You haven't specified which OS you are using ?? Windows XP or Windows 7 .

In windows 7 there is a feature called bit locker . To activate it follow my steps :-

1. Insert the USB drive which you want to lock .

2. Wait for it to get detected and then right click the drive and you can see the turn on bitlocker

3. Note that you must be the admin to do this.

4. Follow the steps and enter a password to successfully encrypt your drive.

This is the way to do without any third party tools, Hope that solves your case .
