If you don’t like what you see in Windows 7 and you don’t need the many features it offers, shifting to a much lower operating system like Windows XP is not a problem but the process is different because downgrading is not possible.

You can upgrade from a lower operating system to a higher one without formatting your drive and keeping all your applications but you can never downgrade like how upgrade works. If you want to replace your operating system, Windows 7, and shift to a much older one like Windows XP, you have to do a clean install.

A clean install means you have to format your system drive (C), where Microsoft Windows 7 is installed, and then install Microsoft Windows XP. And about your applications, you have to install them one after the other. To install the latest Service Pack for Microsoft Windows XP once you have installed it, download Windows XP Service Pack 3.

This is the latest and last Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows XP.
