How does the application Xplico works?

Xplico is a Network Forensic Analyzer Tool (NFAT i.e. a tool which can be used to monitor and analyze the network traffic for different purposes like information gathering) which is used to “sniff” internet data packets. Xplico is an open source program which can be used for network traffic surveillance. It’s not a usual packet sniffer or network analyzer like WireShark. It extracts the data from packet capture by parsing them (pcap i.e. packet capture library).
It extracts the application data contained in captured packets like from e-mail(IMAP,SMTP etc.), http content, TCP and UDP protocol contents ,VoIP calls and other data. This program supports multithreading and is compatible with both IPv4 and IPv6. It can extract data from Instant Messengers, FTP transactions and so on. It can also back-track the Domain Name Server from the DNS packets it captures. It can handle huge data by saving data with SQLite and MySQL support.
How does the application Xplico works?
Xplico is also known as NFAT or Network Forensics Analysis Tool. It is a program that rebuilds the contents acquired carried out by a packet sniffer. Examples of packet sniffer are tcpdump, Wireshark, and Netsniff-ng. This tool is mainly designed for reconstructing the protocols’ application data. It has the ability to identify the protocols using the Port Independent Protocol Identification technique [PIPI].
Xplico is a free software distributed under the GNU General Public License. To learn how it works, this program is capable of reconstructing all the web pages including its contents of raw data in web navigation. It is also capable of reconstructing email messages exchanged with SMTP, IMAP, and POP protocols.
