How do I recover lost files?

How can I recover a lost ruby file in my system? I recently found out that some of my ruby files are missing on my mac laptop and the mac started malfunctioning. Is there a way to recover the lost files without reinstalling the OS? Also, I tried using the recovery partition to recover the files but my recovery HD is not patched with my OS.

Hello Ronald M Peterson,     Absolutely, if you miss some of the ruby files then your system would defiantly start malfunctioning. Now there is only two solutions are feasible. One is reinstall the OS, but you don't want to do this. So second option is feasible that you can use a recovery software. You can use IBall recovery software.
