How to add white space to image resize application in Xcode?

Hello all

I'm in need of dire help. I'm a total newbie to this Xcode programming and just started learning it. I need to create a simple  image editor application. I have done the resizing part but I do not know how to add white space to image resize as not to stretch the image. Help please!
