Microsoft outlook generally able to keep various types of item such as email, calendar, contacts, Folders, Security, Flags, Tasks, conference messages, Journal etc.You didn't inform us about the version of the Microsoft office.

Adding of new icon is not possible unless Outlook 2010. For only Outlook 2010 use MAPIFolder.SetCustomIcon . You will be called GetCustomIcon from code which execute the processing as outlook. The main drawback that custom folder icon is not available unless this session and for this reason setting up custom folder icon have to for every time and custom folder icon will not be appeared to the clients of Outlook web Access . It also doesn't appear at outlook of a mobile device. SetCustomIcon process is only for 2010.
