Active X is needed on some internet sites for us to browse the site properly. Please follow the steps below to enable the active x on your computer. You have to login as Administrator on your computer for the changes to be made.

  • Open the browser.
  • Go to the Tools menu and for Internet Explorer select “Internet Options.”
  • Click on the Security tab in the window that opens. Ensure that the “Internet Content” zone is selected before clicking on “Custom Level.”
  • Locate the controls labeled “Run ActiveX” and select “Enable.”
  • Locate “Script ActiveX controls marked safe” and click “Enable.”
  • Restart your browser for the settings to take effect.

ActiveX is a deprecated application framework developed by Microsoft that adapts its previous OLE or Object Linking and Embedding and COM or Component Object Model technologies for content downloaded from a network, particularly from the internet or the World Wide Web. A lot of Microsoft Windows applications such as Microsoft Visual Studio, Windows Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, and Microsoft Office use ActiveX controls.

Microsoft Edge, the supposed replacement for the Windows Internet Explorer browser dropped ActiveX support in 2015 which marks the end of the technology. In Windows Internet Explorer, some of the ActiveX controls and plug-ins options are disabled by default so better check if ActiveX is disabled. To enable ActiveX, click Start, Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options. In Internet Properties window, select Security tab.

Select Internet from the zone section then click “Custom level”. Find “ActiveX controls and plug-ins” section then scroll down and then select Enable under “Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins”.

Click OK all through out. The ActiveX controls are now enabled on your computer. Installing or updating Adobe Flash Player doesn’t automatically enable the ActiveX controls. This is because Adobe Flash Player has three versions: NPAPI, PPAPI, and ActiveX. The NPAPI version is for Firefox and other Mozilla products. The PPAPI version is for Opera, Google Chrome, and other Chromium-based browsers.

The ActiveX version is an ActiveX control designed for Windows Internet Explorer and other Microsoft Windows applications that support ActiveX technology. This is the one you should be installing if you are using Windows Internet Explorer. To make sure you download the ActiveX version of Adobe Flash Player, download and install Adobe Flash Player ActiveX.
