There are tricks for you to hide your files and folders without enabling the hidden properties of an object and without using any third-party application.

First is, place the folder that you want to hide inside program files directory or even inside Windows folder. Don’t worry it will not affect you computer performance just don’t take too much space from it. Select the folder and then right click select the properties. Click the “Customize” tab and click “Change Icon”.

A new Window will appear, choose from the list of icons. I suggest that you choose a Windows file like a DLL icon. Click Apple and Ok. Once the icon has changed, rename the folder like “Regis” or any believable DLL file name.

The second one is, selecting an icon which is a “no image icon” repeat the process on customizing the icon. From the list of icons, locate the space between icons select it and click OK. You will see that only the name of the folder is left to be visible. Now to have a no folder name, right click the folder and rename it to: Type Alt+0160. Your folder is now completely invisible. Press F5 to refresh if you still see the folder.

Windows 7 and Windows Vista – Administrators only:

• Right-click the folder you wish to protect.
• Pick Properties.
• Click the Security tab.
• Press Edit.
• On the window that popped up, add or remove the user(s) you want under “Group and User Names”.
• Allow or Deny the privilege of the users in “Group and User Names” under “Permissions for Users”,
• Click OK.
• A window will appear to confirm your new settings.

Windows XP Pro:

• Right-click the folder you wish to protect.
• Press the button that says “Advanced”.
• Select “Encrypt contents to secure data”.
• Click OK.

Windows XP Home Edition – NTFS formatted hard disks and folders only and must be located in C:Documents and SettingsYour_Username

• Right-click the folder you wish to protect.
• Pick Properties.
• Click the Sharing tab.
• Select “Make this folder private”.
• OK.
