Please note there is no question category for Windows 8 so I selected Windows 7. I have a new laptop and I saved a file on it. Now I cannot locate it. I did a search but the file is still not found, and I am positive I remember the name of the file. I used to do this on my Windows 7 laptop but it always returned results. Is there another function I could be using to find the file?

There are two ways of searching for files:
-
The File Search function can be obtained by holding down WINKEY and F keys at the same time. The following window opens, and you can search for your file by entering the name in the search block.
-
You can use File Explorer, which is knows and Windows Explorer in other versions of Windows. This way uses more in-depth way of searching and evaluates a more detailed search result. To open File Explorer, any one of the 3 options below can be used:
-
Type “File” and then click on the “File Explorer” App.
-
Right-click on the lower-left corner of the screen and choose “File Explorer” from the menu that pops up
-
Hold down the “Windows” key and the “E” key at the same time.
File Explorer points to certain libraries, but you can widen your search by clicking on the preferred drive or folder. Click on the navigation pane on the left, and then type your search considerations into the “Search” block.
