Hi there,

I am using windows 8 on Dell Latitude E6400, I have been using this Hauwei E220 Modem with GSM simcard for browsing over a week now, this evening, windows could not  recognize the modem but shows it as  flash drive, the connection software will indicate the modem is unrecognized or not connected to the computer, Modem drivers are okay. What could be the problem? how do I fix this since fresh install of windows is not working? (the Modem works fine with my friend's computer)

Hi !

You must have to know that your modem is not compatible with Windows 8 at least this what it says on the official Huawei site. It only works with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista at this moment. But you will have this problem in the future on one of those three OS I will show you how to repair it. First make sure that your driver is up to date . Then uninstall  "USB Mass Storage" by accessing "Device Manager" and in the last install your modem again.

If you are using a USB mobile broadband stick but it suddenly became unrecognized or your system can no longer identify the device, try connecting the USB modem stick to another USB port then try again. A normal CPU has four (4) USB ports at the back plus two (2) in the front panel. Try connecting the USB modem stick to all available USB ports to troubleshoot.

If Windows still cannot identify the device, try connecting a different USB device on the USB port then see if the device can be identified correctly. If there’s no problem with other devices and the problem is with the USB modem stick only, try to uninstall and reinstall the modem’s driver. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it.

Once installed, start Revo then select the Huawei USB modem software among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer. When it is finished, exit Revo then restart the computer.

After booting, plug the Huawei USB modem stick on the USB port. The modem’s installer should fire up and setup wizard should begin installing the modem’s software. Just follow the instructions to install the software back. If autoplay failed to start the modem’s installer, install the software manually.

Start Windows Explorer then navigate to the modem’s ROM drive. Look for the setup file and double-click it to start the installation.
