Great day to all!

I was at home at weekend to finish my research work. When I was about to run Google Chrome, it failed to run and an error message appeared in my screen. It stated that Google Chrome failed to initialize properly. Posted here with is the screen shot of the error:

Chrome.exe. – Application Error

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000005). Click OK to terminate the application.

As I analyzed the error, it's all about the Google Chrome. I remembered last night, while using Google Chrome, I experienced a power failure. My computer was not properly shut down.

This morning, when I am about to use Google Chrome, this error came about. Please help me fix this error message.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Johnhegry!

Are you using Symantec Endpoint Protection? The error is mainly caused by that.

Try these steps:

  • Back up the registry of an affected system
  • Type regedit on the command prompt
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSysPlant
  • Open Start DWORD
  • Change the value to 4( this will disable the drivers)
  • Restart your computer to save the changes
If the above steps will not work, try these:
  • Right click on the Google Chrome icon and go to Properties
  • In the target field, right after the quotation (") mark, put a space then add –no-sandbox (make sure there are two dashes (–) before no)
  • Click Apply and then OK
  • Run using this shortcut
This is to make sure that malware will not be installed in your computer.

It also prevents what happens in one tab will not affect the other tabs in your browser.

This pop up message: “Chrome.exe – Application Error. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000005). Click on Ok to terminate the application” is such a common error that most Google Chrome users are experiencing. To resolve and get rid such error message, you can follow the steps below:

  • Right Click on the Google Chrome shortcut.
  • On the drop down Menu choose Properties.
  • On the Google Chrome Properties window, click on the Shortcut Tab.

In the Target text field, type "–no-sandbox" in the end or right after the end of quotation mark (“). Also make sure to put a space between the quotation mark and the word –no-sandbox. If you’re using any Symantec software or Antivirus, and the above process didn’t work, you have to make some registry edit.

An easy solution is to run Google Chrome with –no-sandbox (with two dashes before "no"). To run the that option, edit the property of the Chrome program and add the option to the end of the "target" line (after the path to the chrome exe).

  • Right click Google Chrome and click Properties.
  • Click the shortcut tab.
  • In the target text field, add a space and then add – no – sandbox ( with two dashes before "no") right after the end of the quotation mark. Make sure that there is a space between the quotation mark and the two dashes.
  • Then run your Chrome.
