Getting the error trying to open NIS 2010 and select LiveUpdate

Hello experts,

I am getting the error after I am trying to open NIS 2010 and select LiveUpdate.

The error messages are in below:

1. The first Application Error message dialog box would display instruction as well as memory error with a message to select OK to end program or stop to debug after trying to open NIS 2010.

I select Cancel feeling that clicking OK would disable NIS 2010.

2. I distinguished that on Process Explorer that in Command Line that it shows a group of code before the pathway of cltlmh.exe(392), which it performed before these errors started showing on 12/2/2010.

I use XP Home Edition Service Pack 3, make use of FF 4b7, installed but hardly ever use IE8.

Need your help to solve it.

Thanks a lot.

I have been using Norton Antivirus for quite a long time now, and I haven’t had a single problem with it.

This year, 2012, I tried using Norton Internet Security 2012 which is another product of Symantec and is also the company that created the Norton Antivirus. These two [2] products protect the computer from viruses, but NIS offers a much wider range of security features compared to NAV. This is my first year to use it and I haven’t had any problems with it while it runs on my machine.

If this is the first time you’ll be using it, close NIS 2010 if it is still open, restart your computer then try it again. Check the system tray if NIS is visible which means it loads successfully after booting.

You may also try doing a clean installation of the program to fix any corrupted files that may have accidentally developed when it was installed. Uninstall NIS 2010 then restart your computer when asked. After booting, check your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. Install the program again then check if this fixes the problem.

You may also download the Norton Removal Tool to automatically uninstall NIS 2010. But be aware that this tool deletes all Norton products from your machine starting from Norton 2003 onwards. To download the Norton Removal Tool and to read the complete instructions on how to use it, you may visit here.

Hi,

I can help you fix the error message on your Norton 2010 product. I suggest you to perform the following troubleshooting:

  • Please make sure the date and time on your computer is correct.
  • Now try updating the Norton product.
  • If it is not getting updated, make sure you are not using any proxy on your computer.
  • Also please try resetting your Internet settings from the Internet options.
  • If this does not work, I suggest you to download and install the latest version of the Norton Internet Security onto your computer.
  • To download the latest version, click the link
  • You’ll not need to pay any additional amount to update the Norton product.
  • Once you have downloaded and installed the Norton Internet Security on your computer, your issue should be fixed.
