GetLastError 5 on Autodesk 3DS Max 2013 Installation

I am running Autodesk 3DS Max 2012 and I was about to uninstall it to upgrade to 3DS Max 2013 but it failed with an error stating, "Error getting file security: C:ProgramDataAutodeskSynergyGetLastError:5". I tried to just install Max 2013 thinking that it will just overwrite and update my old version, however, it also failed with the same error message. I am running this on my Windows 7 PC.

I am under the Administrator account when I am installing this. I even set my Firewall off but still nothing. Can someone please help?

GetLastError 5 on Autodesk 3DS Max 2013 Installation

It is not always necessary that you will have all access although you are part of the Admin group. I would recommend you to check the permission against autodesk folder, which resides under the user profile > AppData >Local. Make sure that you have full access to this folder. While un-installing or installing the software ensure that the Anti-virus remains turned off.

You should perform un-installation from within Programs and Features under control panel. Post un-installation search folders with name 3dsmax and delete them manually before installing any new version. Also go inside registry and remove the following entries.

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Autodesk
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Autodesk
