Forgot pattern of android mobile, How to recover it

I forget my android mobiles pattern and now I am unable to unlock it please help in unlocking it, I do not want to reset it or upgrade it.
As it contained many contacts and other useful information, can the data be accessed without unlocking it?
I am using Samsung galaxy R.

Hello,

If you have linked your account to Google and you have data connection to your mobile. Follow below instructions.

1. Click on forgot pattern. It will prompt to enter Google username and password

2. Enter the details and you will be directed to Google play, you can find instruction to unlock your phone there.

If this doesn't work for you, only option you have is to factory reset your phone.
