Vista backups worked fine until I switched to Windows 7. From now on, each backup fails with the correct I / O error code 0x8078012D. This is done on a Toshiba laptop, which performs a manual USB backup on an external 500GB hard drive.

The error may have occurred if the services associated with Windows backup were to be disabled. Perform the following steps to restart the service:

1. Click Start.

2. Sort the services in the search.

3. Browse Windows Services for Volume Shadow Copy in the list.

4. Right-click the service.

5. Click Properties.

6. Select the startup type Manual.

7. Click OK.

8. Repeat this procedure for the Windows Backup Service.

If the problem persists, I recommend that you simply run chkdsk to fix chkdsk errors and do the following:

I. Click Start

ii. sort cmd in the start search box.

iii. Right-click cmd.exe in the list of programs and select Run as administrator.

iv. Sort your secret or click Next when prompted to join or confirm the nurse administrator’s secret.

v. In the command prompt window, sort the command below and press Enter Chkdsk / R

vi. Press Y when prompted to check next time the system is rebooted.

vii. Close all applications and restart the PC.

Now, as soon as you try to make a backup, I recommend that you quickly disable the protection code on the PC and perform a backup. Be sure to change the protection code on the PC again.
