I have been trying to start Outlook email client so as to back it up. This has however been impossible. Instead, I keep getting an error message that indicates that the file I am opening may be in use by someone else. What is the cause of this problem?

Hi Makayla,

There may be a hang Outlook session which is still opened on the background. For you to check, press ctrl + alt + del buttons on your keyboard. Choose Task Manager then go to Processes. Under processes, look for the process saying outlook.exe. Highlight the process then click on End Now. Click ok if you receive a pop up window asking for confirmation. You can try to open Outlook now.

You can also opt to open Outlook via the safe mode. To open it, go to Start > Run > Type Outlook /safemode > press ok. You should be able to open it and correct any errors that caused for it not to open.
