Hi there,

During the install of ODBC this error appeared and closed the install. I have the installer from the official website and is compatible with my Windows XP. I met all the system requirements and all my drivers and the system is up to date. Can anyone help me please to install ODBC ? What I did wrong and what caused this error ?

Generally, Microsoft doesn’t offer a stand-alone installation package or the one they call offline installer for the ODBC drivers and components. The ODBC components and drivers can only be installed as part of or comes pre-installed with Microsoft Data Access Components or MDAC. ODBC, by the way, stands for Open Database Connectivity. It is a standard programming language middleware API for opening DBMS or Database Management System.

To download the latest version of Microsoft Data Access Components or MDAC, visit MDAC 2.8 Service Pack 1 or download it directly from Microsoft Data Access Components [MDAC] 2.8 Service Pack 1. It supports Windows 98, Windows Millennium, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. It can only be installed on x86 Microsoft Windows. Also, MDAC is already included in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 2000.

So, since you are already using Windows XP, I don’t think you still need to install the ODBC components because Windows XP already ships with Microsoft Data Access Components. Additionally, I don’t think you will be able to install the latest version of MDAC because it doesn’t support Windows XP.
