If Window is not running in normal mode, run it in safe mode.

In safe mode Windows runs only the necessary files that are required to load windows, other programs and drivers are bypassed.

This will enable you to fix the problems with installation. But it is dependent on your Operating system.

If you inform me your operating system then I can help you in a more precise way.

I am happy to help.

Actually we are sharing our knowledge here, and you shall do the same when your part comes in. however, to bring windows 2000/XP in safe mode, press and hold the F8 key on your keyboard while the computer is starting up.

Then you will see Windows Advanced Options menu.

Using arrow keys select the Safe mode and press enter.

Then you are done.

"which should bring up the Windows Advanced Options Menu as shown below"

I think you forgotten to mention what you were talking about. 🙂

Windows advance option menu looks like this:
Windows Advanced Options Menu

Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)

Debugging Mode
Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the arrow keys (up and down) of your keyboard to select the safe mode and press enter.
Note: some computers may show a stuck key message if you hold down the F8 key.

It happens, then keep tapping the F8 key until get the menu.
