This error pops up when something comes up in between the update process.

First, check the connection you are using while updating the phone.

Second, restart your computer and verify that the date and time of the system are up to date.

Third, ensure that the iTunes is up to date this sometimes creates the issues.

Fourth, check the proxy setting of the PC.

If the above four alternatives do not work, check the security software. Make sure that you have enabled the option to communicate to the gs.apple.

Here’s a little fact. Error codes from 3000 to 3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on) generally mean that iTunes cannot connect or contact the “gs.apple.com” which is the update server on ports 80 or 443. Try this. First, make sure you have the latest iTunes installed. Visit Download iTunes to get the latest.

If your phone is currently connected to your computer via the USB cable, turn off your iPhone and disconnect the cable from the phone while the other end of the cable is still connected to the computer.

While your phone is off, press and hold the Home button then connect the USB cable to your phone. Keep holding the Home button until iTunes appears.

This should enter your phone into force recovery mode. Try updating your phone by following the instructions in iTunes. See if this works.
