Make sure when you solve the error, you are logged in as an administrator

  1. Go to ‘Control Panel.’
  2. Select ‘User Accounts and Family Safety’ and then click on ‘User Accounts.’
  3. Now, change the account type and log off from the system.
  1. Now clean the junk from the system, which can cause this error
  2. Go to start
  3. In the search box, type Disk Cleanup
  4. Right click on the option and choose run as administrator
  5. Select the volume of the disk and click ok

Alternatively, you can use Microsoft Safety Scanner. It is available free.

  1. Open the Scanner
  2. Click on the ‘Customized Scan.’
  3. Select the folder that you want to scan
  4. Click next

If you cannot delete a particular folder because it is corrupt even if you have administrative privileges, one method you can try is to delete the files inside the corrupt folder one by one until you see which file is causing the folder not to be deleted. Though this is possible but it is actually not practical if the folder contains huge number of files.

Another way is to delete the folder in Safe Mode. Restart your computer and press F8 before the Windows logo appears. In “Advanced Boot Options,” select “Safe Mode” then hit Enter. In Safe Mode, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the corrupt folder and delete it. See if it works. If this failed to work, another way is to rename the folder.

Select the corrupt folder and press F2 to rename. Name it as without quotes “$Recycle.Bin” then empty the Recycle Bin. After this, the folder should be deleted automatically.
