The exception unknown exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application

Great day!

I was downloading some file from the internet, after which a power interruption occurred and that is why my computer was not properly shut down. When the power was restored, I booted my computer, right after windows started, an error message appeared on my screen. Please see the screen shot below.

Avscan.exe – Application Error
The exception unknown exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location
0x00ed3ee6.

As I looked on the error, it is generated by Avira, so I removed Avira and installed it again. I restarted my computer, and after windows booted, the same error message appeared, I am wondering why this error keeps on coming back even after I re-installed Avira. Please help me find a way to fix my problem.

(0xc0000409)+occurred+in&first=1&FORM=PPME.You will see a number of cases reported on error  apparently caused by various problems. Check the  Viewer (Start – Control Panel -Administrative Tools – Event Viewer,  – and System logs) for any errors pointing towards the cause of your case.

The Microsoft article "MS05-005, Vulnerability in Microsoft Office XP could allow remote code execution": Addresses some issues leading to error 0xc0000409, however may the article not apply to your case

Hello Simon,

There is a hotfix that will help you fix that issue. Follow the procedure below:

• You will need to go to Start AntiVir (Avira AntiVir Configuration), and then  tick "Expert Mode" .
• After that choose General > Security  and then uncheck "Protect files and registry entries from manipulation", and then Click on Apply > OK.
• And then you will download the following file avreg_10_3_0_8.zip. Save it to your desktop and then unpack it. After that, you will need to get the avreg.dll file.
• After that you will need to your Avira installation folder (usually C:Program FilesAviraAntiVir Desktop or C:Program Files (x86)AviraAntiVir Desktop) and then replace the old avreg.dll file for that new avreg.dll downloaded;
• And then go back to Avira AntiVir Configuration and then check "Protect files and registry entries from manipulation" > click on Apply > OK;
• Reboot your computer and  then retry the process.

To fix this issue open Avira Antivirus Configuration with Expert Mode. Go to General – Security and then uncheck Protect files and registry entries from manipulation. Click Apply and Ok. Anyway, pay a visit this Techyv post to get more information.
