Hello! I got a new hard drive for my Dell laptop since it was crashed down last week. Now, when I try to install the drive then an error message "the operating system could not be found" is displaying. I have no idea about how to resolve the problem. Could you please help me out? Thank you.

Hello Greshawn,

The thing here is that you are trying access the hard drive that you just installed as if it is the primary hard drive that has the operating system, but it does not have the operating system. If you need to use the new hard drive as the primary hard drive where you will be booting the computer from, then you will need to perform a clean format so as to install the operating system on it.

Right now you cannot boot the computer from the new hard drive that you installed because it does not have the operating system. So just do as I have guided you above.

Since your computer crashed, you had to have your hard drive replaced right? If the replacement hard drive is not an imaged hard drive from Dell, then it's an empty hard drive. This means when your computer tries to boot into the operating system, it looks for it on the hard drive and did not find it. You need to have your new hard drive set up. Have your operating system installation discs and put it in. Boot into your CD/DVD drive so that the computer will run the setup program. Go through the installation process and after it's finished, you should be able to boot into your new hard drive. You will need to install all your applications back and have your backups copied into it since this is a fresh installation.

Its look like you have no window installed on your system. Your previous window is not available because you replace your hard drive from your computer. So to solve this problem you can install a new window and it will work fine. You can download any window form the Microsoft web site or you can buy a DVD/CD for any window you are entrusted in. You need to put the CD in to your CD drive and make sure that it is a boot able CD then you need to install the window and your computer will work fine. Make sure that your new hard drive is working properly and there is no problem in your hard disk. You will be able to solve your problem.
