I got this error when someone booted me in Windows Live messenger.

Windows Live Messenger

Sorry, we were unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger 8.0 at this time. Please try again later.

To let us try and troubleshoot the problem, click the Troubleshoot button.

Error Code: 80048820

Extended Error Code: 8004816

Is it possible that when users booted you in chat windows, the program will be corrupted?

After the user booted me, I can no longer sign in the Windows Live Messenger. The error popped -up on the screen.

I did the Restart option, and the error remains active. Now I am using Yahoo Messenger but I still want to fix the error before other programs get affected.

Please guide and help me in fixing the problem by posting your answers here!

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks.

Hi there, Mikki here

Your problem there is caused by an incorrect Microsoft SSL Internet Explorer Setting and happens occasionally, here's a very simple way you can do to fix the problem.

It's easy, just follow these steps:

  1. Go ahead and start Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to Tools and then go to Internet Options.
  3. Now then navigate to the Advanced Tab.
  4. Now under Security section tree, uncheck the Check for server certificate revocation(requires restart) check box.
  5. Click the OK button next.
  6. Close Internet Explorer and try to sign up again in Windows Live Messenger.

I hope this helps you with your problem.

Hello,

Thanks for posting your question!

There could be any cause which has occurred in Windows live messenger.

Try the below steps in order to resolve the issue:

  • Make sure your computer date and time is verified and correct.

Let’s correct some of the setting s in internet explorer:

1. Go to Internet options and go to Advanced Tab.

2. Under security option, make sure the below options are checked:

  • Clear the check for server certificate revocation.
  • Select the Use SSL 2.0
  • Select the Use SSL 3.0
  • Now click ok.

Now you’ll have to register the certificates again.

If you have windows XP then click on run and if you have windows 7/ vista then type the below in the open box:

Regsvr32 softpub.dll

Regsvr32 wintrust.dll

REGSVR32 initpki.dll
REGSVR32 Rsaenh.dll
REGSVR32 Mssip32.dll
REGSVR32 Cryptdlg.dll
REGSVR32 Dssenh.dll
REGSVR32 Gpkcsp.dll
REGSVR32 Slbcsp.dll
REGSVR32 Sccbase.dll

Go to windows live messenger and clear the proxy settings.

Final step, restart your computer and see if the error is gone.
