I have upgraded my Adobe Photoshop from CS 5 to Photoshop CS 6. When I upgraded it and tried to open it, I got an error 16 and the Photoshop CS 6 did not open. I have windows 8 in my laptop. Is this a compatibility issue? How can I resolve this issue? What does error 16 mean?

Hello Louis E Easton,   There is no question related to compatibility issue between Adobe Photoshop cs6 an window 8. These are compatiable with each other.  There may be a technical problem. I have explain this problem in below diagram. Just have a look at them and obey them as step 1 to step 3. This will work only for window 8.

According to the Photoshop’s system requirements, Microsoft Windows 8 is not supported officially. Adobe Photoshop CS6 supports Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1. But according to Photoshop CS6’s FAQ, Microsoft Windows 8.1 is supported. So, there should be no problem if you have Windows 8.1 running on your machine.

If you are still on Windows 8 and haven’t updated yet to Windows 8.1, I guess it is time to update your system to version 8.1. Usually, when “Error 16” is thrown by Photoshop Creative Suite, it will ask you to uninstall and reinstall the program. “Error 16” indicates a problem on the permission on the application’s folders.

One way of fixing “error 16” is to start the application as administrator. To do this, on your desktop, right-click on Photoshop CS6 application, point to “Run as”, and select Administrator. See if this works. If this doesn’t work, you need to restore permissions to licensing folders. Go to Restore Permissions Windows 8 to learn more.
