Error 1401 – Could not create key when installing Autodesk Revit Architecture

Hi,

I was trying to install Autodesk Revit Architecture 2012 on my laptop since brought work to home. However, I got this error while installing. I knew I had the correct key which was given by the office tech support so I was baffled by the error and didn’t know what to do next. I haven’t tried reinstalling though. 

Please help! By the way, please provide simple steps for resolution.

Error 1401 – Could not create key when installing Autodesk Revit Architecture

Hi,

This problem appears when you don’t have permission to use the Add-in or if the registry entry is corrupted, we can resolve this problem by adding the necessary permission on that particular registry, you can proceed as follow:

1. Run the Registry Editor by typing “regedit.exe” in the start menu.
2. Navigate the specified Registry key that was mentioned in the error message: SoftwareClasses.dwfxshellex{BB22E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}.
3. Select that specific registry, right click and select "Permissions" in the popup menu.
4. You will have a popup window, select you user group (you should have admin right), then, in the below section, make sure to set the “Full control” and “Read” to Allow.
5. Click OK to validate the changes and try you installation again.
