Driver installation for Toshiba laptop

I reinstalled Linux and now i need to install drivers. The type of the motherboard is Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018.

Hi Rochelle Cruz,

Installing hardware drivers on linux is easy based on the linux distribution you have installed. If you have installed the Ubuntu linux distro just follow these steps :

• Go to System
• Then go to Administration -> Hardware Drivers 
• Then a new window will appear that will show all the drivers that are available for your laptop
• Now install all the drivers (if prompted give your password)
• Then reboot your laptop to make changes
• That's it.

For other distros the procedure will be somewhat the same with different names and menus. 

If you still cannot find drivers for some specific component go to its manufacturer's site and then download it from there.

Linux is another brand of operating system that is intended to be as an alternative to Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X platforms. It matches the functions available in the latter 2 operating systems. But installing a driver on a Linux operating system is very different than doing it with Windows. There are times you need to make the package yourself just to make the installation possible. If the driver is already compiled in your distribution as a package, you only need to install it using the package manager.

To install it, use the syntax without double quotes “apt-get install package_name”. There is a much easy way of installing it without going to the command prompt. Click the “System” tab on top of your Linux desktop then select the “Administration” tab. Now select “Synaptic Package Manager”. This is similar to the “Add or Remove Programs” applet in the Control Panel of Microsoft Windows. Enter the driver’s name in the search box of “Synaptic Package Manager”. Click the box beside the driver. Finally click “OK” to begin the downloading of the driver and installing it.

Now and then, I go to Techyv.com for the purpose of reading about my PC’s problems and solutions which are very reliable. These solutions are provided by the experts most especially by Sharath. Thanks guys for your accommodating comments. All of your comments were good but Sharath, your comment goes without saying that it is a genius and more information is discussed in the comments. Your instruction of installing the system was so easy-to-use, I needed to use the syntax without double quotes “apt-get install package name”. In this case, it is very easy to installing system and there is no need to go to the command prompt. By abiding your process now, I am able to install hardware drivers on Linux.
