Hey, Any information on willow glass? What is that glass about? What technology they used in it? When it will be released into the market?

Willow glass is a flexible ultra thin glass just like a thin plastic sheet. It can be as thin as 0.05 mm, and can be wrapped around your electronic devices such as the mobile phone or any device which is not a flat screen. This material can be bent up to 180 degrees.Â
New York-based firm Corning, the development of Willow Glass plans to release this material on the market during this year but has not specified any date yet. Willow Glass is also capable of supporting thinner backplanes and color filters for both organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and liquid crystal displays (LCDs). This new type of ultra-thin glass will open new doors to the technology of glass manufacturing.

Willow Glass is an advanced flexible screen which is currently still under development by Corning. Willow Glass is expected to be used in developing bendable mobile devices such as Smartphones as well as smart watches. The Corning Willow Glass is a tremendously thin malleable glass that is only about 100 microns thick. Though it is easily bendable, it can also break if it is bent too much.
The strength, flexibility, and thinness of the glass has the possibility to allow displays to be wrapped around a structure or a device. The glass can be processed at temperatures of up to 500 degrees Celsius. The capacity of Corning Willow Glass to be processed at high temperature is important for today’s high end displays. This processing condition done on Corning Willow Glass is not possible and cannot be supported with polymer films.
It will support color filters and thinner backplanes for both LCDs or liquid crystal displays and OLEDs or Organic Light Emitting Diodes in high performance portable devices like Smartphones, notebooks, and tablets.
