Disk defragmenter not installed issue

Hi,

I noticed recently that my computer has become slow. So I decided to defragment my hard drive.

When I clicked on the disk defragmenter on my computer, I got an error saying that the disk defragmenter is not installed on my computer.

I think the disk defragmenter was not properly installed on my computer and do not know where and how to reinstall it.

I would like to defrag my hard drive, as soon as possible and would like to know how I can fix this error to get my defragmenter to work.

I looked in Program files, but it did not show up in my list of installed programs.

Thank you!

Hello,

There are various ways you can fix and reinstall your Windows defragmenter. Here's how you do it:

  1. Go to Start then Run.
  2. In the Run window, type in %Windir%Inf and then click OK.
  3. Locate and right click the dfrg.inf and click Install.

Another method you can try is:

  1. Go back and start Run again.
  2. In Run type in rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%infdfrg.inf
  3. Click OK and wait for the process to finish.

You can also try repairing it:

  1. Go back again to Run.
  2. Type in the following regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll
  3. Click OK and wait for the process to finish.

If the disk defragment is not installed on your computer then try this:

To install the defragment:

  • Go to the control panel of the computer and then click on the Add Remove program icon in the control panel and click the install and uninstall icon and follow the instructions.

OR

  • The other way is click start button, then click run, type C:Windowsinf, and then click ok. Then click on the dfrg.inf, and then click the install button.

Hope this will resolve your problem.

Thanks.

If this error happens when you start the Windows disk defragmenter tool, it could mean that the tool is not installed on your computer. The disk defragmenter tool comes built-in with Microsoft Windows but if you don’t have, one possible reason is that your operating system is an upgrade. To fix the problem, just reinstall the tool. Start Windows Explorer then click “Tools” and then “Folder Options.”

Select “View” tab. Scroll down and look for “Show hidden files and folders,” select it, and then click “OK.” After this, navigate to “C:\WINDOWS\inf” and look for “dfrg.inf”. Right-click the file and select “Install.” This will install the Windows disk defragmenter tool. On the other hand, if you want a robust disk defragmenter for your computer, try PC Tools Performance Toolkit.

Follow the instructions to download and unpack and then install it.
