I am trying to import a .wma file to Windows Movie Maker but I am getting error stating that the file is protected using digital rights management and cannot be imported. I tried everything to fix the issue and even restored all the settings. I did not make any changes on my computer system. What do I need to do? Do I need to convert the file first? Help anyone!

That problem is not being caused by the Windows Movie Maker application, but the file that you are to import using the Windows Movie Maker application. There are some files that are protected against any writing and duplication of any kind, and therefore you cannot import them.

In case you need another copy of the movie file, you will need to purchase another one because the one that has been protected by digital management rights cannot be duplicated. Or you can search online to find a similar copy of that file that is not protected.
