It has been observed by me while starting Microsoft Office 2010 software programs.

When I have initiated one of them (Word, Excel, etc), I got an error message that is "Application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect".

I am running MS Office in the Windows Vista Operating System.

Can there be solution of this problem.

Hello Jack Casper,

Microsoft Office 2010 software failed to start or initiate the software is caused by missing components installed.

2 ways to install and fix this problem;

There are 2 ways to fix and install the components.

  • Run the dtSearch Desktop setup program.
  • Download and run the program from Microsoft, vcredist_86.exe that will ensure missing components will be covered.

I have here the website that will help fix this problem by simply updating or install the missing components.

Another steps to follow;

  1. Resolution.
  2. Re-installing of the C++ runtime environment should fix the issue.
  3. Download the Visual C++ redistributable files from below link: Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package
  4. Once installed, this should take care of the problem and let you open the office application.
