Hello,

This is John Williams. I would like to know how to speed up my computer and also protect it from viruses. Since it consumes a lot of time when I try to do some important work on my computer. I have a trial version of Antivirus, which I think works fine. Kindly suggest me the best way to maintain a bug less PC.

Hi, I understand that you are really in need of some system maintenance tips to improve the performance. For that you basically need to choose the best Antivirus, to install in your computer and also you will have to schedule, regular scans once in a week at the least, to maintain the best speed.

To clear up unwanted files that may be an add-on to you computer, may be in temp, prefetch and %temp%. So to clear that just type in as prefetch in Run or search area in the Windows 7 and press enter. You may see a folder that opened with a bunch of unwanted files. Just select all and delete all the files. These files get there, whenever you enter into your system and work with the applications, in order to make access easy for the next time but at the same time too much of such files dumping in hard disk may make your system too slow.

You also need to type in temp as same you did for the prefetch, to delete all the temporary files. Same as temp, type in as %temp% and then tap enter, there you may get a window, where you can just delete the files in that %temp% too.

I also like to give an advice that, whenever you plug in any external storage devices, just scan it with your computer's Antivirus and then open it. So I hope these steps may help to make your computer work faster.

Also, make sure you download contents from reliable websites. I also suggest you to defragment the drives once in a month or at least twice a month, since by doing so, all the files are rearranged for the faster access.
