I bought a new Intel NUC5i5RYK which has an i5-5250u processor and the intel HD 6000 graphics. However, I have tried to install Ubuntu 14.04 or and 14.10 on it without succeeding. During installation, it only loads the grub and then shows a picture with broken graphics. The windows have bars only but no text or anything else within it. They seem to appear when I pass the mouse within the windows and then it freezes. This has happened twice today. Help me

If you want to install Linux Ubuntu, I guess you should check the version of Ubuntu you downloaded. I doubt that you downloaded an incorrect version for your computer. Since you just bought your CPU, you should check first what architecture of the operating system is supported by your processor.

Since you have an Intel Core i5-5250U processor on your motherboard, I think it is way better to install 64-bit Linux Ubuntu on your computer because your processor is capable of running 64-bit operating systems. But normally, if you have a 64-bit processor, it is possible to install 32-bit operating systems.

But I’m not sure if that’s also possible with Linux. If you have downloaded the 32-bit version of Linux Ubuntu, try downloading the 64-bit version instead. Visit Download Ubuntu Desktop then download Linux Ubuntu again. Make sure you select 64-bit before you download. The file to download is an ISO image.

It is around 996 MB and you need to burn it on a blank DVD-R. After burning the ISO file, boot your computer using the newly created Linux Ubuntu setup CD and just follow the instructions to install 64-bit Linux Ubuntu.
