To be a successful software developer is a very demanding task, software developer needs to be well aware of the software technologies that are state of the art at that time. A developer should be a quick learner and should have good concepts about the language and paradigm. i.e. OO, structural, or procedural.
Should be a specialist of one language i.e. JAVA, python, C/C++ etc. and the most important thing is that the software developer should be aware of the all the latest and incoming technologies or frameworks that are being introduced in the language I think this is the core. Anything else you would like to know?
