Autodesk component has stopped working (Maya 2011)

I am running Windows Vista 64-Bit with 8GB of RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4800 and AMD Phenom II Processor. Recently, I installed the Maya Student Edition 13 Month License of the 2011. The installation went successfully and I never get any errors on it. But when I tried to run it, it just opens a gray output window. Then for few more tries, I received an error message as shown below:

Windows is checking for a solution to the problem…

I don't have any more options but to close the program. And also, the output window is still working in the background even if I already close the error message.

I have another version of Maya Student Edition such as Maya 2009 Perpetual Edition and Maya 2010 13 Month Edition. When I tried to use the two, I started getting the same error message. It just stops working. Other programs are working properly such as my Photoshop. I am not sure if this problem came from the graphics card driver but I already tried to re-installed and upgrade everything, yet the problem remains. How can I fix this?

Autodesk component has stopped working (Maya 2011)

The reason for the occurrence of that problem may be an issue with the display adapter drivers on your computer, and therefore you will need to double check them.

• You will need to go to the device manager on your computer and then right click on the display adapter drivers. You will then update them to the most recent drivers that are available from the vendor’s website or whichever site the updater will download them from.
• Another thing that you will need to do is delete the 'prefs' folder in the following locations on your computer:
  • C:Users%username%Documentsmaya2011
  • C:Users%username%Documentsmaya2011-x64

They may be causing incompatibility issues, and therefore after being deleted the application should work.

Autodesk component has stopped working (Maya 2011)

Hello Xavier,

Your problem is for the executable file that was used to launch the program. Somehow, it is corrupted so after running, it crashes and Windows shows the error message.

In order to fix this error, you have to install the program again. Re-install the program. Before installing the software, you should remove the old one properly.

Also, you should get the latest version of your program from here.
