Hi TechyV buddies!

I am having a problem in opening a file in MS word. When I try to open a file an error message suddenly pops out. The error message tells something about an earlier version of Microsoft Office. The error message is this:

“You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office. The file type is blocked from opening in this version by your registry policy setting.”

Can anyone help me solve this problem? I will really appreciate the effort. Thank you!

Hello Centic,

There may be some files that are blocked by the registry, and therefore to open the you will need to  disable the restriction on opening presentations that were blocked by the registry settings of Word using the following procedures:

  • If you are using Word 2010 and you trust the file that you wishto open, you can be able to open that file regardless if its file type has been blocked by the registry. You can go ahead and then override the registry policy settings by transferring the file to a trusted location on you computer.
  • If you are using Word 2007 and you if you trust the file that you wish to open, you can as well be able to open that file even if it has been blocked by the registry, just like it was done in Word 2010.

Regards,

Carl
