Here a Pst file is a file which contains all your Outlook items such as Emails, events, contacts, etc. It is automatically created after you set up your Outlook account on your PC.

Now here is where you can locate the PST file in your system.

MS Outlook PST file is by default located at c>>users>>Appdata in Windows 7 or Vista and in XP at c>>Documents and Settings>>Local settings>>Application>>Microsoft>>Outlook. You can know the exact location of your PST file in Tools, Options, Mail setup and then in Data files for Outlook 2002 to 2007 and at File, Info, Account Settings, Data Files in Outlook 2010

It is actually not hard if you want to know the location of the PST file. You can even use Microsoft Office Outlook itself to know the actual location of the file. To help you find the actual location of the PST file, in Microsoft Office Outlook, go to “Tools”, “Options”, “Mail Setup”, and then “Data Files” for users with Outlook 2002 up to 2007.

If you are using Microsoft Office Outlook 2010, go to “File”, “Info”, “Account Settings”, “Account Settings”, and then “Data Files”. By default, you can find the PST file in “C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\MicrosoftOutlook” if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. For users with Windows XP, you can find it in “C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook”. PST stands for Personal Storage Table or Personal Folders File.

It is a file created by Microsoft Office Outlook to store all of your Office Outlook items like email messages, tasks, calendar events, contacts, and others. The file is not immediately created after installing Office Outlook. It will only be created once you set up your account. The more items you have in Office Outlook, the bigger the PST file will be.
