Are there Internet rules on online advertising?

I want to create an advertising business using internet in our small developing town. I will send bulk emails and SMS as campaign. Are there any internet rules which I should really consider when doing such things?

Are there Internet rules on online advertising?

Well Stanley, you didn't mention the name of your town and most importantly the country where you want to start your business. There are rules regarding advertisement via internet but the rules vary from country to country. And there are certain countries in which there are no rules yet for this kind of advertising. The main thing you need to keep in mind is that there shouldn't be any material in the advertisement that is harmful or cause of distress for certain people. Advertisement should be such, that it doesn't make fun of any one. Once you mention your country, exact rules can be given to you.

Are there Internet rules on online advertising?

 

You have to go through your ISP (Internet Service Provider) user licensing agreement as some ISPs have limitations on sending huge emails.

 

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act) maintains rules for sending commercial emails. This also has to be complied with.

 

Bulk SMS need agreement with the Mobile Marketing Association's (MMA), Consumer Best Practices Guidelines for Cross-Carrier Mobile Content Programs and MMA’s Code of Conduct for Mobile Marketing.

 

Every country has specific rules for submission
