Am I able to recover data from locked Hard Drive disk?

I have a Hard Drive that a friend gave to me, but it is locked. I understood that this means I do not have direct access to applications.

The basic issue is that I need to recover some files from it, but since it is locked, I don't know how to do this.

Can you help me to unlock it or tell me how can I recover data from locked Hard Disk?

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Yes the hard disk is unlockable, there are software’s build for unlocking purpose one of them being hddunlock you can get the software over here http://www.hddunlock.com/

This software takes 25 minutes to unlock a HDD of size 80 GB, but before that please check the compatibility of the software Generally it is meant for SATA hard disks only, This software is even used during BIOS running time to unlock the HD.
