All About ‘A Records’: What Is An A Record?

'A' stands for Address. An 'A Record' is an Address Record. This record is for finding the address of a system connected to the internet.

For instance, you open a website named as xyz.com. Suppose the address for this site is 216.239.51.99. When you click any link, the system asks the DNS server whether there is any address record for the site and likewise.

Therefore, A records are used for mapping name to system's address on the internet.
