Hope this answer your question.
Good Day.
PoE stands for Power over Ethernet. It is a new technology where network equipment can operate without a power adapter or a power supply. The electrical power that supplies the network equipment is delivered using a regular Ethernet cable without affecting the speed of the data transfer in other way. You don’t necessarily need to replace the present equipment and or cables if they are still compatible with Cat5 Ethernet not unless they are that old and are incompatible.
Ethernet cables contain several twisted pairs of copper wires which are very thin and has very limited amount of power to carry. This kind of cable is really not designed to carry AC power or Alternating Current, the kind of power you get on your AC outlet. The PoE switch uses Direct Current or DC, just like in a battery, at voltages lesser than 50 volts.
