Administrative Rights Needed when Downloading Spotify

Hello there! I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit as my operating system.

It is running well, and I got no problems with it since I had it. Just recently, I wanted to download an application called Spotify but I could not finish the download. An error message is saying: “Spotify was started with administrative rights.

Please start Spotify manually to run it as the normal user account.” I have tried restarting my computer and then I tried installing it again, but it still gave me the same error.

I need some help.

Thanks!

You will need to disable the spotify's administrative rights on your computer to be able to install that application, and the procedure to do that is as follows:

  • First, you will open your computer, and then locate the spotify application and then right click on it.
  • Next you will need to click on 'Properties'.
  • And then you will need to click on the 'Compatibility' tab.
  • Once you have done that, you will need to select the 'Run this program as an administrator' checkbox, and then you will finally click 'OK'.

The application should be able to be installed now without any problems.

Hello Theresa,

Hope the day is going well!

Spotify was installed with administrative rights and now Spotify does not want to come out from administrative rights and that’s the reason it is giving you an error.

Try below steps and it should work fine:

1)      When you install this software, it may have or may ask to your create shortcut on Desktop and Start menu. So all you have to do is to create a shortcut on desktop and start menu.

2)      Click Spotify through the shortcut created on desktop and it should work fine.

If the above doesn’t work then go to Spotify folder location where the files are installed and do the following:

1)      Right click on the icon and go to properties.

2)      Go to compatibility mode and you will see a check box which says “Run this program as an administrator”.

3)      Tick that box and click OK.

Hope the above information helps!

Regards,
