Achieving Non Authoritative Restore Of Domain Services.

A non authoritative restore is a method which restores AD DS from full server backup, system state, etc. It returns the controller of a domain to its original state at the time of backup and allows overwriting with any changes that occurred afterward. Windows Server 2008 system allows you to perform the restore from backup.

It doesn’t require restarting controller in DSRM to perform offline defragmentation and database management. System state backup, web admin start recovery or Full server backup is required for restoring. You can opt for SYSVOL restore which requires Wbadmin.exe and Bcdetit.exe. It is performed by restarting the domain controller in DSRM and restoring AD DS, then verifying AD DS restore.
