I don't know what happen to my dvd-rom. Last week, I was able to insert a dvd and watch a movie. However this week I don't know what happen to my dvd-rom. I inserted several dvd but it always fail to detect it. What would be the possible problem? How will I fix this problem?

When I turn on my PC (running Windows XP service pack 2), after everything starts, I get a warning in the system tray that says “Your computer might be at risk, no firewall is turned on. Click on this balloon to fix the problem. ” I click the balloon, and the Windows security center says that my firewall is on and working fine.

 I’m not running any other firewall except Windows firewall.

Is this just something I have to live with? 

I saved a template in Microsoft Word 2003 and had been using it for the past few months. When I tried to open the template a few weeks ago, I got the message “Windows cannot start mswrd632 converter,” and the text changed into tiny squares. This also happened to a document that had a big table of information in it. I have a dozen other documents this problem hasn't happened to.

Can anybody lend a hand?

I am planning to buy a new set of desktop computer that will be used for my work. My senior supervisor wants me to use Ubuntu because it is the common OS used by our company. But when I checked for reviews and comments, Ubuntu has lot of bug and it needs a fix very badly. With regards to Linux Mint, I have very little information about it. I’m really confused on what OS I must use.
