Partition keeps re-appearing after deletion

To all the experts, I hope you can help me to get rid of the frustrating situation. I have got a 160GB Maxtor hard drive. Pc performance gets slow recently and I tried to clean up by using the Maxtor software tool an error was found in one of the drive. Then I delete the partition by using Easeus Partition manager. But the problem is it appeared again after restarting the computer. I repeat the process for couple of times but can’t fix it. Is it damaged? Have you ever experienced such type of problem? I believe there must be a solution behind every problem. Please tell me what will I have to do?

Hello Charlie

I fear using any software to clean up the hard drive. You can defragment your hard drive from system tools by Disk defragmenter. In future please do not use this software to delete the partition rather you use the Disk management which is found in right click in My computer and select Manage. Then using Disk management you can delete your hard drive partition.

Now you can solve your problem by formatting your hard drive . Insert the windows xp disk and boot it from the cd rom. then the setup screen appears and you can see a window showing you your hard disk partition and there you can delete the whole partition and setup the windows again.

Enjoy the new windows.

Hello Charlie.

It appears there are logical errors on your hard disk preventing the partition from being deleted.  You should have specified the number of partitions on your hard drive.

My suggestion for this is to use an offline partition manager as gparted (https://gparted.sourceforge.io/).  Gparted is freeware and can be downloaded as a LiveCD or Live USB for easy bootup.  Once you have downloaded it, follow instructions on the site on how to create the Live CD or USB.  I am certain that you will have better chance of success with gparted since it will not depend on any of Windows' drivers.

If for some reason gparted does not solve your problem then consider doing a full zero-fill on your hard disk.  Download Maxtor's tool and look for the zero-fill (full) option.  It will restore your HDD to factory condition and remove any problems in the process.
