Problem with hard drive partition

I have a problem with my hard drive partition. I have Lenovo Z460 laptop containing Windows 7 ultimate,and it has hard disk of the size 500gb.  At the moment, I have 2 primary partitions and 2 logical ones but still my hard disk has 104gb free space which can be utilized by creating a new partition. But when I try to do it I got the error saying "CANNOT CREATE A NEW PARTITION. THE DISK ALREADY CONTAIN MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTITIONS".

I am looking for your nice suggestions to resolve this issue. Please help me out in resolving the issue.

Hello Adriana!

I think the main reason for that error is that you've created 4 primary partitions (not 2 primary and 2 logical) which it exceeds the maximum primary drive a user could have. The perfect solution for that is the reformatting of the dive.

*Note: It is your initiative to backup your valuable files before reformatting.

1.) Create two logical drives then format it.

2.) Create only 1 primary drive. By doing this, it ensures you to create logical drives as many as you want.

Problem with hard drive partition

Hi,

 

I have a Lenovo laptop and a 500GB storage I put-on it in two parts 250GB each. That way it would be easy to manage the two partitions. First make it 2 parts one again start with 500GB and  then make a 2nd partition after that format it don;t make the drive D share another partition.

Problem with hard drive partition

Hi,

You have reached your maximum partition already. I was just wondering why have 4 partitions containing 2 primary and 2 logical. You may have reasons but normally, only 2 partitions are created, 1 each for primary and logical. You may have a 3^rd partition but for your secondary OS only. 

As stated above for 2 partitions, the primary is being used for systems. This includes your OS and various office softwares and other peripheral softwares you need. The logical partition would serve as your data partition only. With 2 partitions, anytime you wish to upgrade your OS or when your system partition had been breached by viruses, your data partition need not be formatted unless it was also attacked by viruses. Likewise, doing maintenance is a breeze, such as clearing of unwanted files or simply a defrag, as only the primary partition is involved. You would have a faster start-up too. While your logical partition only contains data files. You can even create folders such as personal or work folders for easy data management.

I recommend to have your drive reformatted into 2 parts were in  one is for system use and the other for data use.
