Can anyone please confirm whether a single licensed copy of Office for Home and Business is enough on my Mac and MacBook Pro notebook?

Hi Mandy,

If the copy of Office for Home and business office CD that you have purchased clearly states that it only contains one license, then you can only install it on one Mac computer. You cannot install it on another computer and activate it for it will detect that there is also another computer using the same license. There are some copies of Office for Home and Business Office CD that comes with 3 licenses on the one pack. Those type you can install on 3 computers.

There are some who install a single license copy of Office for Home and Business office CD on two computers but they do not just activate one to not create any problem.

It depends on the validity of the license for the Microsoft Office. If you’ll be using Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business, no, you cannot. The license for this version of Microsoft Office for Mac is valid only for a single Mac computer. So, if you want to use it on your Mac and on the other MacBook Pro, you need to purchase 2 for the 2 computers.

This is the same with Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student edition. One copy is valid only for one Mac computer. Purchasing a single copy of Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business edition costs $219.99. So, if you need to use it on 2 Mac computers, you need to purchase 2 copies and that will be around $439.98.

For the Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student, a single copy costs $139.99. Visit Microsoft Office: Mac to know the details. Purchasing Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium will somewhat fix your problem. But the problem is it’s on a subscription basis. Purchasing it will cost you $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month but the copy is already valid for up to 5 Mac computers or PCs.
