Laptop over heating problem Dell

Hi,

I am using a dell laptop for a while (about 3 years). Has been in use, under a lot of pressure. Its becoming old I know, but I think my one is just overheating too much, since a few days. Is there any way I can fix it?

Is your cooling system working properly? Check whether the cooling fan is working. Also check the system power saving options. Some systems turn off cooling fan for power saving.

Yes, my cooling fan is working. I would not say fine, because i think it used to rotate faster. Should I consider replacing my cooling fan?

Hello.
 
A laptop can suffer from overheating for a lot of reasons. First off, check the temperatures of your laptop’s processor and video card and make sure that they are in the normal range.
 
A simple way to prevent overheating is to use a laptop cooling pad. It is a pad that you put your laptop on and turn the fans on that are attached with the pad. This helps move the hot air out of the laptop and keep the temperatures low. Do not put your laptop on soft surfaces like bed, pillow, etc.
 
To avoid overheating. Preventing your laptop from overheating will also increase its efficiency, that is, the laptop will run faster. If your laptop is very old, it is advised to check if the processor cooling fan is still running. And even if it is running, make sure it isn’t clogged up with dust. Also, clean the air vents on the sides of your laptop.
 
Prolonged usage of the laptop might also cause overheating. Go to the power settings on the laptop and set up a sleeping time, so that the laptop puts itself to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity. Last but not the least, do not plug in too many removable devices at once or don’t put them plugged in when they are not being used.
 
This lessens the workload on the laptop processor and reduces heat.

Yes, Bookskie is right. If the software does not work then you should consider cleaning your laptop air vent and cooling fan wings.

Here are some useful tips:

1. Use a vacuum cleaner instead of air pressure, in case you don't want to disassemble your laptop.

2. Use a brush to clean fan wings

3. try to avoid unnecessary software.

4. Don't put your laptop on a bed/couch for a long time. It blocks the air vent so that the fan can't exhaust the worm out.
